The breathtaking coastal scenery provides a spectacular natural backdrop for a vast array of recreational pursuits that draws both locals and visitors from all over the world.

2. The Penguin & Sea Lion Cruise
Our ever popular 45 minute cruise into spectacular Shoalwater Bay. The highlight of this cruise is visiting the sea lion colony at Shoalwater Bay before concluding at Penguin Island in time for the penguin feeding.

3. The Dolphin Watch Tour
A 2 hour eco adventure to meet Rockingham’s famous wild dolphins and explore the ruggedly spectacular beauty of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Our new boat is scheduled to begin Penguin Island Departures from November.

4. Explore!
A 45 minute stroll is all it takes and you will be rewarded with white sandy beaches, secluded bays and spectacular coastal views. There is a network of boardwalks that allow easy access to the islands features without disturbing the vegetation. Don’t forget your camera.

5. Take a swim!
The warm waters of the front beach are shallow and protected making them ideal for families with young children. If you are feeling more adventurous, the islands back beaches are spectacular but best enjoyed before the afternoon sea breeze.

6. Bird watching
Penguin Island is a birdwatchers paradise! Species you are likely to sight include cormorants, darters, terns, fairy terns, noddies, silver gulls, oystercatchers, ruddy turnstones, bar tailed godwit (all the way from Siberia!), Arctic Skua, Little Eagles, Ospreys and Sea Eagles. The Islands are also breeding and nesting sites for colonies of Australian Pelicans.

7. Have a picnic!
Penguin Island has a beautiful picnic area with sweeping views of the marine park and the mainland. It’s so nice, lots of people choose this location for their wedding day.

8. Water sports
Sea kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, boogie boarding, fishing, wind surfing and kite boarding. Penguin Island is a water lover’s paradise!

9. Take in a bit of history!
Explore the caves on the front beach to see one of Western Australia’s earliest island resorts, dug out of the limestone cliffs by the eccentric ‘King of Penguin Island’ Seaforth McKenzie.

10. Do nothing!
Just relax, find a nice quiet spot on the beach and soak up the islands laid back atmosphere. Even though your only 45 minutes south of Perth, you’ll feel miles away from anywhere.
